RDS (Room Data Sheets) are used to capture the information and requirements of every space in a construction. They are typically prepared by the client during the briefing phase (also called architectural programming in the US) of the design process. They may be updated throughout the design process to reflect modifications or to provide a clearer picture to those who are responsible for delivering a project.
The Room Data Sheets SmartTool allows you to create room (or space) sheets of data using a Revit project. It is a fast and precise tool that can be used for sheets, elevations and schedule views. The tool is able to create 3D, plans, elevations and views of schedules for rooms or spaces that are named parametrically and numbers on new sheets.
The default setting is to employ the Room Numbering template and the Sheet Format created by the Revit project however, a new sheet name and style can be chosen from the Tool Options tab. Click the button ‘Load configuration …” on the toolbar to replace current settings with previously saved configurations. This helps reduce the amount of needed for manual rework for different room types and sizes.
The tab ‘Naming’ allows the user to select whether the room or space you select is included in the Sheet Name text box that appears on the left of the screen. The ‘View Title: option determines what text appears in the title bar for each view. View Increment specifies how many increments there are between each view on the sheet. The ‘Spacing:’ option is a way to control the space between each view on the sheet and the ‘Exclude View Names in estimating view sizes on Sheets’ option will ensure that titles are not included in determining the number of views that could fit on a sheet.
